14 March marked the fifth anniversary of the declaration of a state of alert for the COVID-19 pandemic, a global public health emergency, which became the biggest medical challenge in recent times.
It caused millions of infections and deaths worldwide, straining health systems, economies and societal responses. Measures to contain its spread included social distancing, the use of masks, confinement and mass vaccination. And yet the vultures did not let the "opportunity" pass them by.
And what we told ourselves, or what we were told: that we would come out better. It was said then and time soon proved us right again. All that was a bunch of phrases as beautiful as they were empty.
7291
On the eve of this anniversary, RTVE broadcast a special programme 'The pandemic that changed the world' and premiered the documentary '7291', directed by Juanjo Castro, which was seen by a large number of people.
Immediately, Isabel Trumpita Ayuso, appeared with her institutional stuff impregnated with McCarthyism and shortly afterwards added that the documentary was"misleading". And not only that, as well as asking for a video to be broadcast with a particular interpretation of the facts in the party's usual style, she made a small reduction in the number of deaths in the residences to 4100.
In a communiqué issued by the Community of Madrid, which has the nerve to headline:"Faced with the campaign of the left and the ultra-left, the Community of Madrid gives the exact figures", they close with this paragraph in which they make this "adjustment" of the number of deaths:
"IMPORTANT: the number of deaths in residential homes that the left and the ultra-left are agitating for was an invention of the then councillor for the sector, Mr Reyero, who had to be removed from his responsibilities because he was ineffective. The falsehood was born of him. There were never protocols signed by politicians. Nor discrimination. The real number of deaths in residential homes was 4,100, and never because they were not helped. No matter how much the political platforms of the left insist, the Community of Madrid has no knowledge of requests from the victims to be received. They should know that we are at their disposal".
In the PP a lying machine.
In July 2020, Infolibre, based on data provided by the Community of Madrid, published the number of elderly people who died in residential homes in Madrid without being transferred to hospital: 7291.
But the figure they are now denying by offering a new lower figure also had a higher number, when in April 202, the Community of Madrid put the number of deaths in homes with coronavirus at 5,688.
The Community of Madrid obtained these data from the directors of the 475 homes for the elderly in the region and 235 centres for people with disabilities and passed them on to the government in response to a request from the central government to the autonomous communities , as reported in the press at the time.
Ayuso and the miserable bunch she surrounds herself with also forget that shameful protocol that they continue to deny. What the president of the community said was "a draft that was studied, but "not taken anywhere", was a protocol signed and sealed and with all its regulatory stuff. Anything but a "mistake". A document that proved that the Ayuso government set "exclusion criteria" for not transferring patients from homes to hospitals.
Early on, Ayuso accused the then councillor for Social Policies, Alberto Reyero (Ciudadanos) of being to blame for the "crisis" in the residences, a crisis that he also denied a thousand times.
To put the record straight, the Madrid Regional Health Minister, Enrique Ruiz Escudero, contradicted Ayuso and admitted that the protocol for not transferring elderly people from residences to hospitals was indeed sent to the centres.
