Palestinian artist Mahasen Al-Khateeb was killed on 18 October by the Israeli army in an air strike in Jabalia.
Mahasen, 32, was a popular illustrator and scriptwriter who had opened her studio two weeks before the 7 October attacks. During the Israeli response, she lost the premises with all the equipment and furniture and her house was partially destroyed. Despite all this, she decided to stay in northern Gaza while others fled south.
He became popular for his videos and illustrations that he shared through his social media accounts about his life in Gaza after the invasion. Thanks to a micro-donation campaign on GoFundMe, he managed to support his family and continue publishing his work.
One of his most shared illustrations, and also the last one he posted on his Instagram account, alluded to the death of Shaaban Ahmed Al Dalu, a 20-year-old Palestinian boy who was burned to death in front of his family after his tent was set on fire by Israeli shelling in the courtyard of the Al Aqsa Martyrs' hospital in central Gaza.
Mahasen Al-khateeb accompanied the illustration with this text:
"Tell me what you feel when you see someone on fire..."
