Operation Southern Spear. Cartoon of 17/11/2025 in CTXT

Donald Trump is a genre unto himself and an inexhaustible source of inspiration for journalists, comedians, cartoonists and all known subspecies of opinion-makers. Moreover, it is just what his supporters and worshippers deserve for having voted a criminal to rule their decadent country for a second time.

Keeping track of all his statements and headless chicken moves requires full-time dedication. Trump has this ability to cover up any of his bullshit with more bullshit. Thus, the escalation is usually a steady climb towards disaster and any day now he will have a blowout that will be heard on Mars.

Some may not remember, but during his first term in office he had already set the media dancing by announcing a nuclear war after the "crisis" with North Korea. That, which for many was little more than the announcement of the end of the world, ended with a mere ridiculous meeting with Kim Jong-un that did not leave much more than a few memes.

The one they said would not only not start any war but would end all existing wars, now practices extrajudicial executions by bombing ships and deploys warships in the Caribbean. He has called this Operation Southern Spear.

Since the beginning of September 2025, Donald Trump has authorised more than twenty lethal strikes against suspected drug trafficking vessels in the Caribbean Sea. Although there are estimates of the numbers killed, the exact number of people killed and even their identities are unknown. The attacks are part of a growing pressure campaign against Nicolás Maduro, whom US officials accuse of being the leader of a drug cartel that the State Department labelled a foreign terrorist organisation in November. In recent weeks, Washington has significantly increased its air and naval presence in the region as part of Operation Southern Spear, a US military campaign it says is targeting drug trafficking in the Caribbean.

The first excuse was a war on drugs (a catch-all "war" that can be used for anything, remember the outcome of Ronald Reagan's war) and to get rid of the drug traffickers, but soon the script was changed to blame Venezuela for having stolen US oil. Tomorrow it could be for anything else because the important thing is to stick their noses in wherever they please, organise coups to overthrow governments, plunder resources and all those little things so typical of their imperialist and colonising culture.

Trump accuses, without evidence, Nicolás Maduro of leading a narco-state and being the head of the Cartel of the Suns (a story the US made up in 2020), while a second oil tanker is intercepted and seized off the coast of Venezuela and people continue to be executed by machine-gunning and bombing boats without anyone being able to stop the self-proclaimed sheriffs of the world from imposing the death penalty at sea. Calling this "war" is the key, so it looks a little less like murder.

And Trump continues with his roadmap, which is to lie. In his latest address to the nation he spouted a string of lies and exaggerations about his supposed achievements during his first year in office and also blamed Joe Biden for the economy's problems.

All this coincides with the release of the Epstein files. The US Department of Justice has already released thousands of Epstein's documents although it admits that some more are missing and, for the moment, 16 documents have already been withdrawn, including photos of Trump with women in swimming costumes. The parade of references, emails and photographs of people of all kinds posing happily with Epstein's paedophile continues to grow, adding to those already released by the Democrats a couple of weeks ago.

In an unexpected twist of history, which has left more than one person's arse twisted, none other than Anita Obregón enters the scene. According to The New York Times, Jeffrey Epstein amassed part of his fortune from his courtship with Ana Obregón(1),(2). Epstein's papers also contain references to Alejandro Agag, José María Aznar's son-in-law.
