Activism

Activism is the organised action or set of actions that a group of people take to bring about political or social change. Theoretically, the concept goes beyond mere opinion, as it implies active participation, often through campaigns, protests, boycotts or civil disobedience actions. Its origins lie in the social movements of the 18th and 19th centuries, when groups of citizens organised to fight for the abolition of slavery, women's rights or improved working conditions.

Today, activism has been transformed by technology. Social networks and digital platforms have facilitated the organisation of global movements that defend causes such as environmental protection, racial equality or human rights.
