The Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas ( CIS) has its origins in the Instituto de la Opinión Pública (IOP), created in 1963 during the Franco dictatorship, and which existed under that name until 1977, when it changed its name to Dirección General del Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas in Royal Decree 2761/1977, of 28 October, reorganising the Presidency of the Government.
