The new report on the situation of threatened cartoonists around the world will be published on 2 March 2026. It is the result of a joint effort by Cartooning for Peace, Cartoonists Rights and its partners: Freedom Cartoonists Foundation, the Forum for Humor and the Law (ForHum), Global Freedom of Expression at Columbia University and Reporters Without Borders.

Based on data collected over the past two years by Cartooning for Peace and Cartoonists Rights, the report describes trends in threats directed against cartoonists. In a context marked by the rise of authoritarianism, the cases documented by Cartooning for Peace paint a picture of the state of democracy around the world.

It also presents the results of an original study on the online experiences of print cartoonists, along with thematic and regional contributions from numerous authors, including Riss, editorial director of Charlie Hebdo, as well as Reporters Without Borders, Artists at Risk Connection and the Freedom Cartoonists Foundation.

As a key advocacy and awareness-raising tool on the situation of threatened cartoonists worldwide, the report also presents a series of recommendations, particularly in response to the levels of threat and censorship faced by cartoonists on digital platforms. It follows on from the Report on the situation of cartoonists under threat worldwide: "Cartoonists on the line" (2020-2022).

The publication of this report is part of a project supported by UNESCO' s Global Media Defence Fund (GMDF) and the CFC, which aims to document and highlight the threats faced by cartoonists.

The report will be released exclusively at the International Press and Media Drawing Festival ÇA PRESSE, to be held in Lyon on 5 March 2026, in the presence of Cartooning for Peace, Cartoonists Rights and Reporters Without Borders. It will be available for reading and downloading in digital format on the Cartooning for Peace and Cartoonists Rights websites.
