Cartoon exhibition to reject censorship at the NYT

Update 21/05/2021
This exhibition did not take place, although it is likely that it will eventually be mounted one day. Its organisers never completely ruled it out.

Cartoon exhibition to reject censorship at the NYT

These are the two cartoons that I have created and sent to collaborate in a collective protest action of Spanish cartoonists that is being organised by Luis Conde for Reporters without Borders to express their rejection of the decision by The New York Times.

The newspaper decided to remove the political cartoons from its international edition as of 1 July after apologising for a cartoon and then dismissed its cartoonists, its national edition also no longer had room for graphic humour.

On the exhibition

The organisers of the action consider it a form of censorship and arbitrariness that they reject.

The exhibition will include both ready-made cartoons and new ones that the authors wish to contribute.

The exhibition, initially virtual, although they do not rule out taking it to a physical medium, has no date yet. If you are a cartoonist, there is still time to participate. For more details, you can write to Florence at this address: rsf(at)rsf-en.org.

For 2020

The date, still to be confirmed, will be communicated in January 2020 and will be hung in the "Gran Muestra" of 2020 on the 25th anniversary of RSF Spain and on the 25 years of graphic humour in the Spanish press.

As a tip, a couple of sequences of the process of analogue pencilling and digital inking.
