On 24 May, the UN International Court of Justice ordered Israel to immediately halt the offensive in Rafah.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel to halt its military offensive against Rafah and to open the southern Gaza crossing with Egypt to allow humanitarian aid to enter.

The president of the court, Nawf Salam, indicated that Israel must implement the order "in accordance with its obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, and in view of the worsening living conditions faced by civilians in Rafah Governorate".

The court ruled: "The State of Israel must immediately halt its military offensive in Rafah and any other action that would inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life leading to its physical destruction in whole or in part.

Just two days after the verdict, a bombardment by the army of the genocidal state of Israel killed at least 45 people and wounded more than 100 in a displaced persons camp in Rafah.

The attack caused a fire that engulfed the squalid makeshift buildings made of sheet metal, cloth and plastic where the displaced people were staying. Most of those killed were children, teenagers and women. Netanyahu called this new massacre of civilians a "tragic mishap" and, for a change, said he would open an "investigation" into it, which is what they always say after every mass execution.

It is unbearable to continue to observe this savagery and the inaction of those who have the moral obligation and the necessary means to stop it, although it is not all thunderous silence and disgusting equidistance, if not adhesion and complicity with the genocidal. European universities are increasingly cutting their links with Israeli educational establishments, mobilisations and protests are taking place all over the world and some countries have joined in the recognition of Palestine as a state.

Spain, Ireland and Norway are the latest countries to officially recognise Palestine as a state.

143 of the 193 member states of the UN General Assembly have already officially recognised Palestine as a sovereign state.
