Holidays

Holidays are a period of rest granted to workers and students, during which their usual activities are suspended. In theory, the concept of holidays is a fundamental employment right that aims to safeguard individuals’ physical and mental wellbeing, whilst promoting a balance between work and personal life. Its origins as a right date back to the 19th century, when labour movements fought for improved working conditions and a reduction in working hours.

Throughout the 20th century, paid holidays became firmly established in the legislation of Western countries as an inalienable right. Today, it is regulated by labour laws and collective agreements.
