The term ‘woman’ refers to a human being of the female sex. Theoretically, the concept of woman has evolved throughout history and has been the subject of study across a wide range of disciplines, from biology to sociology and gender studies. However, beyond its biological definition, the concept of woman encompasses a complex web of roles, identities and cultural and social experiences.

The history of women’s struggle for their rights is a cornerstone of modern history. For centuries, women were relegated to a secondary role in society, denied basic rights such as the right to vote, access to higher education or the right to own property. The suffrage movement, which emerged in the 19th century, marked a turning point in the struggle for equality. Since then, women have fought for equal pay, political parity, the right to abortion and the eradication of gender-based violence.
