Turkey, actor sentenced to 11 months in prison for sharing cartoon about Erdogan

Latuff cartoon shared on the internet by Aydin, a "proof" for the prosecution.

Turkish actor and columnist Orhan Aydin was sentenced to 11 months and 20 days in prison for insulting Turkish Presidentturkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for, among other things, sharing this 2015 cartoon by Brazilian cartoonist Carlos Latuff on the internet.

A court in Istanbul issued this verdict on charges of insulting the Turkish president The fact that Aydin shared Latuff's cartoon about Erdogan's trip to Cuba on social media was one of the evidence of the "insult".

The court also said that in another post Aydin insinuated alleged similarities between Erdogan and Adolf Hitler. Aydin confirmed(capture) on his Twitter account on 6 April 2017 wondering

Erdogan's major purge in the wake of the July 2016 coup attempt has only hardened the usual repression in Turkey crackdown on activists, artists, intellectuals, journalists, media and any dissent.
