Many agencies and institutions warned a long time ago that this was going to happen. Let's just say that now the results of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) analysis only "technically" reinforce what we already knew. There is famine in the Gaza Strip. This was confirmed by the UN Secretary-General on 22 August. Already in October 2024 they warned of a high probability of imminent famine in parts of the northern Gaza Strip.

According to a new Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report released the same day, more than half a million people in Gaza face a famine situation, characterised by widespread starvation, extreme shortages and preventable deaths. The World Health Organisation warns that famine conditions are expected to spread from Gaza Governorate to Deir Al Balah and Khan Younis Governorates in the coming weeks.

During the days of the summer news "drought", the news still coming out of Palestine was as brutal, if not more so, than the rest of the year. The genocidaires, in their line, again bombed the Nasser hospital, killing fifteen people, including four journalists.

Meanwhile, here, some intruders in the noble profession of reporting, such as Francisco Marhuenda, were writing editorials as simplistic and misleading as they were disgusting with the refrain of Israel's "right to defence" without devoting a single word to the tens of thousands of civilians killed or to the history of occupation and apartheid. And all this almost at the same time as the Israeli army was executing an entire team of Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza City. The reporters, who were camped outside the Al-Shifa hospital, were shot in a targeted attack, yet another of many, by Israeli armed forces.

But everything can get worse. The Ministry of Defence announced a plan of attack by the Israeli army in Gaza City for which it had authorised the mobilisation of 60,000 additional reservists and was already making what it called " humanitarian preparations" to "evacuate" one million people from Gaza City.

When Israel talks about humanitarian aid, the reality is always different and much crueler. The Israeli authorities deprive Palestinians in Gaza of water. Seventy per cent of the water that passes through two of the three pipelines in the Strip is lost due to leaks caused by bombing. Of the 196 desalination plants run by the public sector and NGOs, more than 60% are not functioning.

A study by the NGO War Child shows that 49% of children in Gaza have expressed a desire to die and 96% feel that death is imminent. Representatives of several humanitarian organisations operating in the area such as Save The Children, Oxfam, Glia, among others, declared at a joint press conference that many children in Gaza want to die because "in heaven there is water, food, sweets and chocolate".

Israel murders 28 children a day in Gaza, but it is very likely that as you read these lines, the genocidaires have raised the average.
