After centuries of warfare that have left an almost incalculable number of dead and wounded, the new Yankees are discovering that this is not Call of Duty.
They want their own team to win, like those who support a football team on a Sunday afternoon, but they don't want the effects to spill over. And that is impossible. Wars, in addition to taking the lives of thousands or millions of people, cause a global shock wave that leaves permanent after-effects. A thick sediment of misery remains forever in the earth.
I try to follow the avalanche of news about Trump and Netanyahu' s war, trying not to make it either the first or the only reading of the day, because it is the only way not to increase my conviction that society is rotten.
Although it is rather an exercise in distraction as an act of denial of the existence of these mindless warmongers who propagate death and destruction as the solution to everything and who also try to make the rest of the world believe that there is no other way and that the pursuit of peace as a priority is a matter of fear, weakness or idiocy.
But war, however far away it may seem to you, can come knocking at your door in any form. It would not be the first time.
