Inflation. Cartoon of 30/07/2022 in CTXT
The economic rollercoaster in apocalyptic times is distressing
When Pedro Sánchez predicted a black autumn due to the energy issue, he warned us that “any scenario” could arise due to possible gas shortages
Just think that there is no politician who does not minimise any catastrophe or crisis, no matter how big it may be, so if he not only does not deny it but warns us that it will be very bad, it is a matter of serious concern.
In the meantime, the unemployment figures came in and gave us a breath of fresh air and a handful of reasons to rejoice (or at least be sad, depending on how you look at it). Spain’s unemployment rate fell to the lowest level since 2008.

But as joy is usually short-lived in a poor man’s house, inflation slapped us in the face with 10.8%. Its highest rate since 1994. If we already had our purchasing power in agony, inflation has now wrung its neck.
Not so long ago, our weekly shopping trolley (without anything extraordinary) cost around 75 lerels, now there is not a week that does not go below 125 lerels and on top of that we get less basic groceries.
At the same time, banks and energy companies continue to make more and more money (the only aim of capitalism) and to share out the millions in bigger and bigger sacks.
