Israel shaping editorial lines. Cartoon of 26/10/2024 in CTXT
To say that no murderer wants witnesses and to repeat at this point that Israel is against the press is unnecessary because for months it has been against absolutely everything, be it children, hospitals, refugee camps or anything else that breathes.
On Friday 25 October, three journalists from Al Mayadeen and Al Manar television channels were killed in their sleep and several were injured in an Israeli air strike in Hasbaya in southern Lebanon. The dead are cameraman Ghassan Najjar, Al Mayadeen sound technician Mohammad Reda, and Wissam Qassim, cameraman for Al Manar.
The attacks took place at 3:30 a.m. and hit a group of small villas housing 18 journalists from at least seven media outlets working in the area, including Al Jazeera, Sky News Arabia and TRT. Several cars with "Press" signs were parked in front of the house.
This is yet another execution to add to the many war crimes that the genocidal state of Israel has committed, and continues to commit, with absolute impunity. Israel no longer even speaks out on the matter, not even to repeat the usual"we will open an investigation" bullshit.
I still can't process the disgust I feel for all those journalists and media who defend or justify genocides when they would not hesitate to blow their heads off without mercy. In addition to being the shame of the profession, they are shitty as people. In Gaza alone, at least 183 journalists, cameramen, photographers and other media workers have been killed since 7 October 2023 to date. A large number of them were Palestinians.
We are not free of this rubbish here either. An example of this can be seen in Telemadrid with this message on the radio of the thousand hills, which was later deleted by the public broadcaster when the dangerous message had already been duly broadcast.
The Civic Platform Action Against Hate (ACO), made up of professionals from the fields of jurisprudence, journalism, literature and academia, demanded the resignation of those responsible for the drafting, broadcasting and dissemination on networks as news of the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) communiqué that claimed that six journalists from the Qatar-based Al Jazeera channel were Hamas militants. " The journalists are part of the military wing of Hamas that operates as the vanguard of Hamas' propaganda war against Israel", read the headline on the official X account of the Madrid public media outlet, along with an Israeli flag.
According to the ACO, "Telemadrid is contributing to putting a target on the chests of six reporters, thus cooperating with the genocide perpetrated by the Israeli army".
This week also saw Israel ban by law the UN agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) from operating in the country, which in UNRWA's view will mean"the collapse of the humanitarian system", as if it were not already sufficiently damaged. For António Guterres, the ban will have"devastating consequences for Palestine refugees".
This decision, contrary to all international norms, has led several experts to call for Israel's expulsion or suspension from the UN, but what has been the UN's reaction? More posturing, more communiqués, another load of nonsense.
And there he goes again, Josep Borrell, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, declaring himself very worried about the very worrying things he is worried about while the rest of the civilised world continues to wonder why the hell they don't do something really effective and real to stop the genocidaires in their tracks.
Europe is leaving a beautiful picture of being on the wrong side of history that we will never forget. In Germany especially, where even an exhibition of children's drawings is being censored for being "too political".
According to Al Jazeera, more than 41,800 people have died in a year of Israeli genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The Gaza Ministry of Health has confirmed the identities of more than 34,000 of them. These are their names.
