The Almighty

The Almighty. Cartoon of 03/01/2025 in CTXT

It seems like ages ago, given the substance of the issue, but it happened at the beginning of 2025. Christian Lawyers joined Hazte Oir's lawsuit against the president of RTVE, Broncano and Lalachus for the cow stamp bullshit "for a crime against religious feelings".

The speciality of Yisus ' lawyers is losing lawsuits. I don't know if there is a crime of "abuse of justice", but, if not, it should exist just to be able to denounce these would-be inquisitors for that. I also fail to understand how so many ridiculous lawsuits are admitted for processing when it is clear from the outset that they are not going to succeed.

Likewise, I have more than assumed that these moves are just one more way of instrumentalising that crappy thing that the turboultracatolic faction of the right wing calls"cultural battle" by pulling any kind of bullshit and that they don't care if they lose the lawsuits. The only thing they want to do is to scare people and feed the discouragement effect.

Christian lawyers go around filing lawsuits like headless chickens. I will remind you of one of my favourite cases that perfectly illustrates the paranoia of these people.

In March 2024, a mother, represented by Christian Lawyers, filed a complaint against two teachers of the IES Oleana de Requena (Valencia) for dressing as nuns to teach during 8M.

In the end, they had to withdraw the complaint and apologise because the teachers were only taking part in a school activity to celebrate women's day, in which they had to dress up as female characters from films, and they chose those from the film "Sister Act".

I find it all so anachronistic and laughable that I can't help imagining an alleged God being represented, against his will, in the courts by this bunch of reactionaries who are dedicated, among other things, to harassing women who decide to have abortions and then inventing that they "prevent" them from praying at the door of clinics.

Although some still believe that the clergy do not sympathise with the actions of these ultra organisations. They are wrong. I don't remember a single time that any church spokesperson has disassociated themselves from or firmly, openly and publicly rejected these demands. What's more, this time even the Episcopal Conference and the archbishopric of Seville have joined the fray.

Among the latest absurd lawsuits by these people is one against Carlos Martínez, leader of the PSOE in Castilla y León, who will have to testify for getting into a popemobile during a party, and another against the councillor of Palma, Lucía Muñoz, and the illustrator Lluïsa Febrer for a poster in which some nude figures appear.

Meanwhile, the satirical magazine Mongolia launched a crowdfunding campaign to sue "Christian Lawyers" and stop this ultra-Catholic lobby in court for its harassment of freedom of expression. The magazine filed a lawsuit in the courts of Mataró (Barcelona) against the Foundation and its president, Polonia Castellanos, for false denunciation, which carries penalties of between six months and two years in prison.

The government has promised to abolish the crime against religious feelings this year, but if they follow the same timetable as with the promised non-repeal (now turned into a cosmetic reform) of the Gag Law, find a comfortable chair to sit and wait.
